New in Town

New in Town

I seriously wanted to like this movie, but I couldn't. I like Renee Zellweger as an actress, but she just did not work out as the fast track corporate zealot Lucy Hill, when she was tough as nails and when she began showing her softer side. Harry Connick, Jr. is a good singer, he should; however, pick better scripts or get out of acting altogether. In fact not much in the movie did work, but I sat through all 97 minutes of it because it is my job.

The movie tried to become a feel good union movie, with a concentration on romance and a few laughs. Well, the laughs were very few, if at all, and I never bought the romance, and, ultimately, I tired of all the union versus corporate talk in this mess of a script by Ken Rance and C. Jay Cox. J. K. Simmons had a supporting role, witch he almost always shines and enriches the films he's in. Not this time in Director Jonas Elmer's movie that just missed so bad.

Rated PG. Released on DVD May 26, 2009.
